Flocking Instinct

Like many of my works “Flocking Instinct” is highly textural and so difficult to really capture in a photograph, even close up. But I thought it would be worth giving you a series of closeups.

Flocking Instinct is composed of a series of circles of a sort of handmade paper/plastic/cement where the pulp was laid down with a palette knife so that they are very lumpy and full of holes and in many cases full of embedded objects. They are painted with acrylic paint. They are obviously of a family but quite different.

These are then joined with a series of wooded rods painted to look like they may be parts of some machine so that the whole thing has the appearance of a mechanism. It measures 110cm x 100cm.
